This was my 70th birthday present to myself in the form of a double CD encompassing the many styles of music I love to play from “Postman Pat” to “Giant Steps” to “We Plough the Fields and Scatter” - a truly eclectic selection from my repertoire.
The Brothers (£5)
My late brother Will Michael was a jazz pianist of amazing depth. Here are some duets we played together along with solo pieces including his beautiful “Elegy” and my interpretation of that perennial jazz standard “The Old 100th”.
Anything But A Silent Night (£5)
My interpretations of some of the greatest Christmas Carols, including “Still the Night”, “God rest, ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Ding Dong, Merrily on High”.
A History of Jazz Piano (£5)
Believe it or not, using that well known theme, beloved by jazz musicians “The Wheels on the Bus”, I talk and play through the styles of jazz pianist from Fats Waller to Herbie Hancock!
The Michael Family at the Fringe 2011 (£5)
Recorded live at the Edinburgh Fringe featuring in addition to myself on piano, Paul Michael bass, Hilary Michael soprano sax and violin, and Joanna Duncan violin, we play tunes from The Great American Songbook, including a selection from “Porgy and Bess”.
The Deil’s Awa Wi’ The Jazzman – only available from Bandcamp (£5)
These recordings are my own interpretations of the tunes of Robert Burns including “My Love is like a Red, Red Rose” and “The Deil’s Awa wi’ the Exciseman”, and “Ae Fond Kiss”.
Beautifully recorded by Don Mitchell on the Bosendorfer Grand Piano in the Younger Hall, St Andrews.
I am sold out of hard copies so the only way to buy this CD is through Bandcamp!
