Online Jazz Weekend 20th & 21st February 2021
Intermediate Jazz Weekend £45
If you can play the melody of a popular tune, here’s the opportunity for you to learn how to take a solo on four of the greatest tunes ever written.
Working on “Autumn Leaves”, “Take the “A” Train”, “Summertime” and “All the Things You Are”, I will show you how to learn the bass line, the inner harmony (Guide Tones) and how to understand the chord changes and related scales.
I can’t make you into the next Stan Getz, Miles Davis or Oscar Peterson, but I can explain all the basics of constructing a jazz solo, as I have done for thousands of students over the years in my work with Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra, and countless workshops up and down the country.
I will also analyse four great solos (as I have done for many years on BBC Radio Scotland’s “Jazz Nights”) from the work of Miles Davis, Lester Young, Chet Baker and Johnny Hodges.
The sessions will be on Feb 20th and 21st 10-11.15 am and 2-3.15 pm each day.
You will need:
- a strong internet connection
- the Zoom app
- a willingness to “get it wrong and not be bothered”!
It is not necessary to be a good reader, but a reasonable standard of literacy will help your understanding of the sessions.
We collect your email address as part of the signing up process, and will be in touch ahead of the weekend. You will receive your Zoom invite after your payment comes through.
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you online.
